Nissan Armada Vs. Chevy Tahoe

By Justin Cupler | March 19th, 2019

Though full-size SUVs have lost some of their luster to the popular crossover segment, they remain a great option for buyers who need to haul families and tow a trailer or drive off-road. Two greats in the large-SUV realm are the 2019 Nissan Armada and 2019 Chevy Tahoe. Which is better for our Bradenton and Sarasota area buyers? Keep reading to find out.

Exterior

In 2017, the Nissan Armada received redesign, making it one of the freshest SUVs on the market. Even with its new look, the Armada continues with the upright design it’s had since it debuted in 2004. This blocky design may be a bit much for some buyers, but there are plenty of chrome bits and flashy wheel options to shake things up.

The 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe is a little older than the Armada as its last redesign came in 2015. Like the Armada, the Tahoe has an upright appearance and plenty of upscale features to break things up. The Tahoe has 18-inch wheels like the Armada, but it lacks the standard LED headlights that make the Armada look amazing in the dark.

In terms of sizing, the Armada is significantly larger and heavier than the Tahoe.

Interior

Inside, the 2019 Nissan Armada boasts a truck-like design with plenty of dressiness to make it more stylish and comfortable than a pickup. As standard, the 2019 Armada comes with cloth seating, but it is still upscale with its standard 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, dual-zone climate control, Bose 13-speaker audio system, and more.

The 2019 Chevy Tahoe’s cabin is less truck-like than the Armada’s, giving it a swoopier-looking dash and a more sedan-like look. There is also a trick touchscreen that slides upward to reveal a storage area. What’s more, you can protect this area with a PIN. The 2019 Tahoe also features an 8-inch touchscreen but lacks the Armada’s standard navigation. The Tahoe comes back with its standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The 2019 Chevy Tahoe’s seating arrangement offers more room that the Armada in most measurements, but its second and third rows offer significantly more legroom.

Performance

The 2019 Nissan Armada and 2019 Chevy Tahoe are bulky SUVs with tons of weight to haul around. But they also boast powerful V-8 engines that give them great straight-line speed. While they are quick in a straight line, their heft keeps them from handling well.

The 390-horsepower Armada is 1.3 seconds quicker to 60 mph than the base Tahoe with the 5.3-liter V-8, but the Tahoe RST Edition, which features a 420-horsepower V-8, is 0.2 seconds quicker than the Armada. Towing is great in both SUVs, but the Armada’s 8,500-pound capacity beats most versions of the Tahoe by at least 100 pounds.
