Nissan Armada Vs. GMC Yukon

By Justin Cupler | April 8th, 2019

Full-size SUV like the 2019 Nissan Armada and 2019 GMC Yukon offer plenty of room for the family and luggage, and they offer the towing capacity to haul a small trailer. Both the 2019 Armada and 2019 Yukon deliver in these areas, but which one is best for our Bradenton area car shoppers? Find out below.

Exterior

In 2017, the Nissan Armada went through a big redesign that makes it one of the freshest full-size SUVs on the market today. Though its looks are all-new, the 2019 Nissan Armada retains the upright design language it’s had since its 2004 debut. This blocky design may be a bit much for some buyers, but there are plenty of chrome bits and flashy wheel options to shake things up.

The GMC Yukon’s last redesign came in 2015, making it older than the Armada by a few years. Like the Armada, though, the 2019 GMC Yukon also features an upright design and plenty of upscale features, especially in its range-topping Denali trim. The 2019 Yukon’s list of standard exterior features include bright 18-inch wheels, heated mirrors, and tinted glass, putting it close to the Armada’s base features.

In terms of sizing, the Armada is significantly larger and heavier than the Yukon.

  • Smaller and easier to handle

Interior

Inside, the 2019 Nissan Armada boasts a truck-like design with plenty of dressiness to make it more stylish and comfortable than a pickup. As standard, the 2019 Armada comes with cloth seating, but it is still upscale with its standard 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, dual-zone climate control, Bose 13-speaker audio system, and more.

The 2019 GMC Yukon’s cabin is not as truck-like as Armada’s interior, giving it a better base to apply its high-end features to. The Yukon also boasts a trick touchscreen that slides upward to reveal a storage area you can lock with a PIN. The GMC Yukon’s list of standard interior amenities easily trumps the Armada with its standard 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and tri-zone automatic climate control.

The 2019 GMC Yukon’s seating arrangement offers more room that the Armada in most measurements, but its second and third rows offer significantly more legroom.

Performance

The 2019 Nissan Armada and 2019 GMC Yukon are massive SUVs with a lot of heft to haul around. Both models also boast powerful V-8 engines that give them great straight-line speed. While they are quick in a straight line, their weight and soft suspensions make them tricky to handle in the corners.

The 390-horsepower Armada is 1.3 seconds quicker to 60 mph than the base Yukon with the 5.3-liter V-8, but the Yukon Denali, which features a 420-horsepower V-8, is 0.2 seconds quicker than the Armada. Towing is great in both SUVs, but the Armada’s 8,500-pound capacity beats most versions of the Yukon by at least 100 pounds.
